Senior Physiotherapist Associate

Clinical Pilates Instructor

Shumaila Sayed

Shumaila began her journey into physiotherapy in India. Growing up, she initially imagined herself becoming a medical doctor. As she grew older, however, she realised that physiotherapy was more aligned with what she wanted from a career: working closely with people, being involved in their recovery, and helping them through movement rather than focusing primarily on medication.

Her first year of physiotherapy school was not without its doubts. Shumaila questioned whether physiotherapy was truly the path for her. It was during her second year, however, that her perspective began to change. Seeing the passion of her professors and clinical educators, and experiencing their willingness to teach and share their knowledge, reignited her interest in physiotherapy.

After graduating, Shumaila spent a year working in a major hospital in Pune before moving to Singapore, where she started again as a Physiotherapy Associate.

Several years later, Shumaila took a different path and became a Pilates Instructor. Pilates offered her the flexibility she was looking for while allowing her to continue using the knowledge she had gained from her physiotherapy training. Over time, however, she found herself wanting to return to physiotherapy and pursue the clinical side of her passion once again.

This eventually led her to KJ Therapy, where she found an environment that allowed her different experiences to come together. She could combine her physiotherapy foundation, her years of experience with Clinical Pilates, and KJ Therapy’s approach to directional-bias movement.

Today, Shumaila sees movement as more than simply an exercise or treatment technique. It is a way of helping people understand their bodies, regain confidence, and work towards moving better in their everyday lives.
